Reverse Trade Show
Our May meeting is a Reverse Trade Show. What is that, you ask? The object of the event is for Planners to set up table top exhibits that describe the kind of meetings they plan (purpose, where, when, number of people, etc.) so that Suppliers can gain a better understanding of our Planner Members' meetings.
What is in it for Planners? Even if you are not exhibiting, this meeting will provide a great opportunity to visit other Planner Tables and see how other government organizations are facilitating meetings and events. Collect a few RFP's and compare notes or just bring a list of questions to ask other planners. That's what SGMP is all about networking with peers and sharing best practices!
What is in it for Suppliers? Talk about making a day of sales calls EASY!! Just spend your lunch hour visiting each of our Planner Tables to discover if any of their events would be a good match for your venue or destination. Park once, and visit eight or more potential clients it doesn't get any easier!
Planners: If you are interested in having a table top exhibit for your organization, please contact Erika Secord, CMP (esecord@mayflowerpark.com) by Friday, April 25th.

Community Outreach
For the next couple of months, the Chapter will be partnering with Sleep County USA in the support of foster children.
OUR COMMITMENT TO THE FOSTER CHILDREN IN OUR COMMUNITY
Foster kids often go without the basic needs that most children take for granted, like school supplies, toys or even warm clothes. With your support, Sleep Country USA is making a difference for foster kids in need. Thank you for helping give foster kids the childhood they deserve.
Not everyone can be a foster parent, but anyone can help a foster child.
Washington and Oregon have over 26,000 children in foster care. And many have suffered the effects of neglect, poverty and even abuse. Recent studies show that for many foster children, the challenges are just beginning.
Nearly half do not return to live with their biological families
Foster kids repeat a grade twice as often as other students
They score 15-20 percentile below other kids on statewide tests
More than half of foster kids don't graduate high school
At age 18, 61% have no job experience and 1/3 end up on welfare
After leaving foster care, 25% end up on the streets
But it doesn't have to be that way. PNW SGMP is joining forces with specific and targeted foster charity organizations and the community to help Washington foster kids. With your help, we can provide foster kids with the little things that can make a big difference. Things like school supplies, soccer shoes, tutoring, summer camp, or even something as basic as a birthday present or warm clothes. Be creative and drop off your donation at our next monthly meeting.
